Dear friend of Electrisium,

in this article we would like to inform you about the newest Wega range of integrated voltage detecting and indicating systems from Dipl.-Ing. H. Horstmann GmbH, which is manufactured in accordance with the IEC 62271-213:2021 standard.

What is new in the IEC 62271-213:2021 standard?

This new standard is canceling and replacing the first edition of IEC 61243-5 published in 1997 and the first edition of IEC 62271-206 published in 2011. This new standard is a merger of the content of IEC 61243-5 and IEC 62271-206 and it is applicable to all voltage detecting and indicating system (VDIS) to be installed on indoor and outdoor high-voltage equipment.

This edition includes the following two significant technical changes compared to the previous editions of IEC 61243-5 and IEC 62271-206, namely:

► an optional output signal is defined to be used for multipurpose use cases;

► a single interface is defined for the Voltage Detecting Indicating System (VDIS), and consequently the VDS (Voltage Detecting System) specific to the IEC 61243-5 standard and the VPIS (Voltage Presence Indicating System) specific to the IEC 62271-206 standard are eliminated.

Voltage Detecting Indicating System (VDIS), as defined by this standard, includes a phase coupling system, capacitive, resistive or other technology, for connection to live parts.

Wega 1 and Wega 2 integrated voltage detecting and indicating systems compliant with IEC 62271-213:2021

The Wega 1 and Wega 2 series are three-phase voltage detecting systems, which indicate several states of the operating voltage, and which, having an LRM front interface, are fully compatible with the IEC 62271-213:2021 standard. The fully encapsulated electronics of these systems increase their operational reliability and, due to their extended operating temperature range from -40°C to +75°C, they are suitable for a wider variety of applications. Thanks to the new design of the Wega 1 and Wega 2 series, with tool-free assembly and disassembly possibilities, considerable time is saved.

For increased flexibility, Wega 1 V and Wega 2 V allow capacity adjustment in a wide range of values.

Wega 2 and Wega 2 V allow remote monitoring of the voltage status through the auxiliary contacts they are equipped with.

How do the Wega 1 and Wega 2 systems differ from the previous Wega 1.2C and Wega 2.2C systems?

The German company Dipl.-Ing. H. Horstmann GmbH, having the ability to innovate and develop new products, has brought some improvements to the Wega 1 and Wega 2 systems, namely:

► a new quick fastening method available for all metal sheet thicknesses between 1.5 – 4mm;

► the possibility of assembly and disassembly without tools, for easier handling and faster installation;

► rotary switching solution for adjusting the capacitive voltage divider at the Vario systems.

Although designed in accordance with the new IEC 62271-213:2021 (VDIS) standard, Wega 1 and Wega 2 integrated voltage detecting and indicating systems still comply with IEC 61243-5 (VDS). Moreover, in relation to the previous systems Wega 1.2C and Wega 2.2C, the company Dipl.-Ing. H. Horstmann GmbH managed to keep the same functionalities as well as unchanged capacitive dividers for the Wega 1 and Wega 2 systems, so they can be used for the same types of applications.
